Film developments: Multiwalled carbon nanotubes are flexible enough to coat polystyrene microspheres (see image). A monolayer of such spheres can be deposited onto a glass substrate and then coated with a polymeric thin film, which retains the conducting properties of the carbon nanotubes. Such nanoengineered materials are excellent candidates for future devices, including a variety of sensor applications.
